Getting Ready for Kumbabishekam

In wake of the kumbabishekam, Annamalaiyar arappani kuzhu volunteered to undertake uzhavarappani and to paint the compound walls of the temple.We on behalf of Manavur village thank every individual, who have stepped up to help us in completing this pending work, which we are sure, would not have been complete, without such massive and dedicated participation.

Due to the massive size of the temple, volunteers from Shri  Adalarasan's  Thirukovil Uahavarappani Mandram joined hands with Annamalaiyar arappani kuzhu.

Quick facts

• Temple walls are of 10 feet high
• Area to be covered is approximately 14000 sq. ft.
• Over 80 individuals participated in the uzhavarappani
• A group of 30 representatives reached Manavur on saturday 25/02/2012 and stayed there overnight
• This group started the work early in the morning by 5:30 AM, while others joined them on 26/02/2012 morning
• Notable among the participants is Shri Jayaraman,  a physically challenged devotee without both the legs 
• Women devotees were also present in large numbers and engaged themselves in cleaning various Sannadhis.

Kumbabishekam invitation

Dear Devotees,

The divine power has unified us to carry out work on renovating a shiva temple.  The renovation work of Sri Anandavalli samedha Thirunandeeswarar temple, Manavur village, in Thiruvallur district, is nearing completion and is due for Kumbabishekam on 25/03/2012. This temple is located in Manavur village (4 stations away from Thiruvallur enroute Arakkonam-Central)

With the support of shiva devotees spread worldwide and their sincere prayers, we were able to attend most of the pending works which is now almost complete. Nevertheless, this would not have been possible without the divine guidance and magnanimous participation from every single devotee, despite the huge size of the temple.

I would like to express the voice of villagers via this message. We as villagers would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude, to every individual, who helped us restore the glory of this temple and made this possible, by liberally contributing towards this noble cause.

We unitedly welcome you all to participate along with us in the kumbabishekam slated on 25/03/2012. Please treat this as a personal invite and request all devotees to attend this holy function and get blessed by the almighty.

அருள்மிகு ஆனந்தவல்லி சமேத திருநந்தீஸ்வரர் 


"ஆழ்கதீயதெல்லாம் அரன் நாமமே

சூழ்க வையகமுந் துயர் தீர்க்கவே"

குரும்பர்கள் தொண்டை மண்டலத்தை 24 கோட்டங்களாக பிரித்து ஆட்சி செய்து வந்தனர். அவற்றில் 4 வது மண்டலமாக மணவூர் விளங்கியுள்ளது. மணவூர் என்ற ஊரின் பெயர் இங்கிருக்கும் திருநந்தீஸ்வரர், கந்தசாமி மற்றும் பிள்ளையார் கோவில்களில் உள்ள கல்வெட்டுகளில் மணயிர், மணவிர், மணவூர், மணவில் என்று பலவாறாக பொறிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

அரக்கோணம்-சென்னை மார்கத்தில் 54 கி.மீ. தொலைவில் அமைந்துள்ள இக்கிராமத்தில் உள்ள கோவில்கள் மேலும் அழகுப்படுத்துகின்றன. சரித்திரப்புகழ் வாய்ந்த இக்கிராமத்தில் வாழும் நன்மக்கள் புரதானமாக விளங்கிய 1200 ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் முற்பட்ட ஆனந்தவல்லி உடனுறை திருநந்தீஸ்வரர் ஆலயத்தின் திருப்பணி செய்திட முனைந்துள்ளனர்.

கோவில் சிறப்புகள்

திருநந்தீஸ்வரர் மூலவர், கோவில் வடபாகத்தில் ஆனந்தவல்லியம்மை சந்நிதியும், வெளிச்சுற்றுப்பிரகாரத்தில் கணபதி, சுப்ரமணியர் சந்நிதிகளும், கிழக்குப்பகுதியில் கொடி மரம் மற்றும் பலி பீடங்களும் உள்ளன. கோஷ்ட மூர்த்திகளாக தட்சிணாமூர்த்தி, லிங்கோத்பவர், கணபதி, பிரம்மா, துர்க்கையும்,  க்ஷேத்ர பாலகராக பைரவரும், சோழர்களுக்கே உரித்தான சிற்ப வல்லமையுடன் விளங்குகின்றன. ஸ்தல விருட்சம் வில்வம்.

சிவபெருமான் அகத்தியருக்கு மணக்கோலத்துடன் காட்சி அளித்த ஸ்தலம் ஆதலால், திருமணவூர் என அழைக்கப்பெற்று, இந்நாளில் மணவூர் என்று விளங்குகின்றது. நந்தி பகவான் சிவபெருமானை பூஜித்து சாப விமோசனம் பெற்ற ஸ்தலமாகும். இக்காரணத்தால் இறைவர் "திருநந்தீஸ்வரர்" என்று அழைக்கப்படுகின்றார். இக்கோவில் கருவறை தென் சுவற்றில் உள்ள சோழ மன்னன் மூன்றாம் ராஜராஜனின் கல்வெட்டில் இறைவன் பெயர் "மணவில் உடையார் சோமநாத தேவர்" என்று குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.

 

மேலும் இத்திருத்தலத்தில் நடராஜர் சிறப்பு குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. பரிவார மூர்த்தியான நடராஜர் சிரித்த முகத்துடன் அனந்த தாண்டவம் ஆடும் கோலம் சிறப்புடையது. சிவ பெருமானின் ஐந்து சபைகளான இரத்தின சபை(திருவாலங்காடு), கனக சபை(சிதம்பரம்), ரசித்த சபை(மதுரை), தாமிர சபை (திருநெல்வேலி), சித்திர சபை (குற்றாலம்) உள்ள சிறப்புகளுக்கு இணையாக மணவூர் விளங்குகின்றது. இங்குள்ள நடராஜர் சபை "ஞான சபை" ஆகும்.

"ஆடியது ஆலங்காட்டில், அமர்ந்தது திருவூறலில், மணந்தது மணவூரில்" என்றொரு பழமொழி உண்டு.

ஆகமத்தில் கர்ஷனாதி, பிரதிஷ்டாந்தம், பிரதிஷ்டாதி, உத்சவாந்தம், உத்சவாதி, பிரயச்சிதாந்தம் என்னும் நான்கு வகையில் எந்தெந்த ஆலயங்கள் எங்கெங்கு இருக்க வேண்டும் என்ற முறைப்படி கிராமத்தில் ஈசான்யத்தில் சிவாலயமும், நிருதி மூலையில் விஷ்ணு ஆலயமும், இடையில் கணபதி, கந்தசாமி, அம்பிகை முதலிய ஏனைய ஆலயங்களும் முறைப்படி எக்காலத்திலோ ஸ்தாபிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இவ்வாலயங்களுக்கிடயே, நந்தி பெருமான் உண்டாக்கி, அதில் மூழ்கி சிவபெருமானை வழிபட்டு சாபம் நீங்கப்பெற்ற சிறு தீர்த்தம், அழகமைந்த படித்துரைகளோடு விளங்குகின்றது. 

இத்தீர்த்தத்தில், சிவபெருமானின் ஜடா பாரத்தில் உள்ள கங்கை பாதாள மார்கமாக வருவதாக ஐதீகம். ஆனால் காலக்கோளாறினால் வற்றிவிட்டது.

ஒரு செவி வழி செய்தியாக, கிராமத்தின் பெரியவர்கள் கூறியது, இத்திருக்கோவிலின் கதவுகள் திறக்கும்பொது அதிலுள்ள மணிகளின் ஓசை, சிதம்பரத்தில் கேட்கும் என்றும், அதன் பின்னரே சிதம்பரத்தில் நடை சாத்தப்படும் வழக்கமும் இருந்துள்ளதாக தெரிவிக்கின்றனர்.

சிறப்புகள்

• இங்குள்ள விநாயகர் சந்நிதி பிரமிக்கத்தக்கது. இவரை வணங்கி வழிபட்டால் வயிறு சம்பந்தமான கோளாறுகள் நீங்கிவிடுகின்றது.
• இங்கு வீற்றிருக்கும் இறைவி ஆனந்தவல்லியம்மையை வழிபடுபவர் கடன் தொல்லைகளிலிருந்து மீள்வதாக நம்பிக்கை.
• சிவ பெருமான் அகத்தியருக்கு திருமண காட்சியளித்த ஸ்தலம் ஆதலால் திருமண தடை நீக்கும் ஸ்தலமாகவும் விளங்குகின்றது. 
• கண்ணப்ப நாயனார் இத்தல இறைவனை தரிசித்துள்ளார். ஆதாரமாக, உற்சவ மூர்த்திகளில் வில்லேந்திய கண்ணப்ப நாயனார் உருவம் இங்கு இருப்பது சிறப்பு.

கோவில் விழாக்கள்

• மார்கழி மாதத்தில் மாணிக்கவாசகர் திருக்குளத்தில் நீராடி திருவெம்பாவை பாடி 10 நாட்கள் நடக்கும் உற்சவம் வெகு விமரிசையாகும்.
• வைகாசி விசாகத்தன்று 11 நாள் உற்சவம் நடைபெறுகின்றது.

கோவிலின் தற்போதைய நிலைமை

இத்திருகோவில் சிதலமடைந்திருந்தது. தற்போது அதை புனரமைக்கும் பொருட்டு சுமார் 42 ,00 ,000  ரூபாய் செலவில் திட்டமிடப்பட்டு 50 % பணிகள் நிறைவேறிவிட்டன. ராஜகோபுரம், கொடி மரம் மற்றும் சில பணிகள் நிலுவையில்  உள்ளது. இவ்வேலைகளை செவ்வனே நிறைவேற்றி  விரைவில் குடமுழுக்கு நடத்திட திருவருள் கூட்டியுள்ளது. கோவில் புகைப்படங்கள் இங்கே .


சிவாலய திருப்பணியின் பயன்கள்/பெருமைகள் 
ஆதி காலம் முதல் கோவில் என்றால் சிவாலயம் மட்டுமே குறிக்கப்படும். பராகிரம பாண்டியன் என்ற மாமன்னன் சொன்னது:

பழுதுபட்ட புராதன சிவாலயங்களை புதுப்பிக்கும் பணியில் எப்படி ஒருவர் ஈடுபட்டாலும், அவர்களது திருவடிகளை இப்போதே வீழ்ந்து வணங்குகின்றேன் என்று


"ஆராரயினும் இந்த தென்காசி மேவு பொன்னாலயத்து
வாராததோர்  குற்றம் வந்தால் அப்போது அங்கு வந்ததனை

நேராகவே ஒழித்துப் புறப்பார்களை நீதியுடன்
பாரார் ஆரியப் பணிந்தேன் பிரகிரம பாண்டியனே"

சிவாலய பணிகளில் ஈடுபட்டால் நம தீவினைகள் முற்றிலுமாய் நீங்கப்பெறும்

கூடவே நல்வினைகள் சேரும் ஆலயத் திருப்பணிகளில் ஈடுபடல், உடலுழைப்பு  தரல், இடம் அல்லது மனை தரல்,குளம் தூர்வாரல்,கல்,மண் அளித்தல் ஆகிய எல்லாம் மிகமிக சிவபுண்ணிய செயல்களாம்.

Manavur Temple Renovation 

54 kilometers off Chennai (rail enroute Central-Arakkonam) lay a historical village called Manavur. The age of this village dates back to as early as 7^th century A.D. Historical facts reveal that kurumbas ruled the ancient Thondai Mandalam by dividing it into 24 divisions of which Manavur happened to be the 4^th division. 


True to its legacy, this small village boasts of several inscriptions and sculptures found in the sanctum sanctorum of 1200 years old Thirunandeeswarar, Kandhaswami and Vinayagar shrines.

The sculptures as well as architectural design of this temple depicts typical chola construction.

The Temple

The temple houses Thirunandeeswarar as moolavar. In the northern side of the temple premises resides goddess Anandavalli thayar. Outer pragaras hosts Ganapathy, subramaniar and Bairavar as kshetrabalagar. Around the sanctum, lord Dakshinamoorthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and Durgai are installed.

It is inferred that Lord shiva after his celestial dance performance in Thiruvalangadu, gave darshan to Agasthiar in thirumanakolam along with His consort Anandavalli and hence the name of the village Manavur.

Significance:

• Nandhi Baghavan and Sage Agasthiar had worshipped here
• Inscriptions found in Koovam and Thakkolam temples talks about the glory of this temple
• The temples in Manavur has been built with perfect alignment as mentioned in the aagama sastras (Karshanathi, Prathishtandham, Prathishtandhi, Uthsavandham and Uthsavandhi) Siva temple is built in Eashanya, Vijayaraghava Perumal temple in Niruthi moola, Sakthi Ganapthi temple facing north and Kandhaswami temple facing east have been consecrated.
• A unique urchava moorthi statue of Sri Kannapa Nayanar, who donated his eye to lord shiva, relates his connection to this temple.

Legend

• Nandhi Baghavan, initiated a sacred water source, which is now serving as the temple tank, took holy dip in the beautiful temple pond, worshipped lord Shiva and got his curse relieved. Hence the temple tank has the name Nandi theertham and the Lord is called “Thirunandeeswarar. It is also believed that ganga devi who captivated in lord shivas siras, is the source of water flow to this temple tank.
  

• Lord shiva after his celestial dance performance in Thiruvalangadu, which karaikal ammaiyar witnessed, came to Manavur and gave darshan to sage agasthiar with his consort. There is a famous saying "ஆடியது ஆலங்காட்டில், அமர்ந்தது திருவூறலில், மணந்தது மணவூரில்". Which means, Lord shiva danced in Thiruvalangadu, rested in Thiruvooral (now known as Thakkolam) and married Parvathi at Manavur.
  

• It is also being said that when this temple was well maintained, the doors of this temple, when closed, the bell sound will be heard in chidambaram, only after which the chidambaram temple will be closed. Also, during mogul invasion, the villagers, in a measure to save such beautiful doors, seem to have hid these doors, by throwing it in the village pond.

Worship Benefits

• People who suffer from stomach related ailments, worship Lord Vinayagar residing in the outer sannidhi and get cured of their disease.

• Those who have huge debts, worship goddess Anandavalli for six weeks by lighting a deepam with lemon shell, will get their debts cleared.

• Lord Brihaspathi(Guru) present in the outer sannidhi, when worshipped every Thursday by lighting a ghee deepam, facilitates timely marriage, when there are marriage obstacles.

It is a general practice in villages that the panchayat decisions or people’s issues will be addressed amidst large village gathering. Before such important decisions/verdicts are to be made, people promise in front of lord Poi Solla Pillayar and then decide. (Much similar to court scenes that we witness in movies. Where they promise upon Bhagavad Gita)

It has also been a regular practice in this village, when it comes to finance management and anything that involves manushya dharma such promise is made in front of this Vinayaga.

Present state of the temple

Thirunandeeswarar temple was in a dilapidated state and is currently being renovated. 

 

In a measure to restore the original glory and to uphold the falling majesty the local villagers worked without pay and restored part of this historic temple from falling to pieces. However, there are other tasks that require specific expertise, which is directly proportional to the cost involved. More temple photos here

Appeal

Shree Thirunandeeswarar Thirupani kuzhu has been formed under the guidance of Nanmangalam. Mr. Sivayanama to renovate this ancient and historically important temple. The overall cost was worked out to 42 lacs and 50% of the work has been completed. Below are some of the pending work, that are yet to be completed with contribution from local villagers, devotees and philanthropists.
